The ANO Telecommunication Technologies Association, which includes Russian electronics manufacturers, is demanding that the Ministry of Industry and Trade introduce import duties on SIM cards, bank and transport cards, Kommersant writes.

The interest rate is set at 50-100% of the profit. At the moment, there is no import duty on ready-made smart cards in Russia.

At the same time, the Russian company should make up an average of 7% for the import of components for smart cards. Growth association that growing cards “have a production capacity capable of with a large margin of demand” of customers, primarily banking cellular operators.

Kommersant’s source said that Russian manufacturers are offering big discounts because they are afraid of “the expansion of Chinese smart card manufacturers in the Russian Federation.”

After European chips are widely supplied to Russia in the spring of 2022, NSPK will certify Chinese components. Now Chinese manufacturers are planning to enter the Russian market of payment cards on their own, and not through the supply of chips.

The difference in prices for Chinese cards and Russian cards with an imported chip can reach 500%.

The entry of the Chinese into the Russian market is killing Russian card manufacturers.

With SIM-cards, the situation is as follows: about 30-50% of the cards are purchased in China, the rest fall out at the Russian factories of Novacard, Altair and Eastkompis. There is no shortage of SIM cards, but their price in 2022 increased from 20 to 110 rubles. [Коммерсантъ]
