The government was allowed to hide any official statistics from the public. The law giving the authorities the right not to provide such information was approved by the State Duma immediately on the second and third reading.

The State Duma gave the government the right not to publicly release any official statistics. Thanks to the legislative reform, authorities can now establish special access to statistical information and temporarily suspend its dissemination, the bill says.
The current law did not allow prompt decision-making on sensitive data of geopolitical significance, explained the authors of the initiative, represented by a group of State Duma deputies.
After the start of the special operation in Ukraine, the Federal Customs Service was allowed to hide official statistics in terms of import and export volumes from the public. Partially, banks and organizations whose securities are traded on the Moscow Stock Exchange have been allowed not to disclose financial information about their activities.
