Overall, a record 69,190 microelectronic patent applications were filed in 2022, a 59% increase from 43,380 just five years ago. This shows how fast the industry is developing.
The Chinese submitted 18,223 applications (55%). US companies came in second with 26%. The UK holds 179 patents, or 0.26% of the total. Taiwan’s TSMC was the largest individual registrar with 4,793 patents, or 7%.
