Wildberries introduced a new fine for sellers on February 22: now they will be penalized for the lack of labeling on those products where it is required by law, and also if the labeling is not legible. This is reported by the Vedomosti newspaper, citing several market partners.

Wildberries will start fining sellers for lack of product labeling

The newspaper’s interlocutors reported that, according to the new rules, for the correct acceptance of goods with mandatory labeling, it is now necessary to paste a code on the outer packaging. In their absence or incorrect placement, sellers will be fined 1.5 thousand rubles for each unit of goods.

Wildberries told the publication that the fines are a necessary measure that will reduce the proportion of incorrect brands when transferring products from the seller to the market, as well as reduce the cost of reverse logistics and double processing.

Ozon and Yandex.Market do not plan to introduce fines. These markets will be limited to the prohibition of accepting such products in the warehouse.

  • From March 1, 2023, the markets will be responsible for the turnover of unbranded light industry products together with other market participants, the Center for the Development of Advanced Technologies (system operator Chestny Znak) said. According to the organization, markets can choose specific measures to avoid violations.
  • The Ministry of Industry and Commerce also reported that the possibility of online platforms imposing fines for the supply of unlabeled merchandise is not regulated. The representative of the department limited himself to pointing out that the market participants themselves must control the presence of labeling on those products, when so provided by law.
  • The Chestny Znak product labeling system has been introduced in Russia since 2018, the aim of the project is to combat counterfeiting. Labeling is now mandatory for medicines, cigarettes, mineral water, dairy products and other categories. The government also plans to launch an experiment on the marking of radio electronics from April 1.
