A San Francisco startup made fake bacon with bioreactor-grown lard. It is noted that animal fat is much easier to grow compared to meat itself, as it contains only one type of cell.

The authors of the development claim that they can make a convincing product by mixing only 10% of the grown oil by weight with vegetable protein. However, even this approach has its drawbacks. For example, adding farm animal fat to plant-based foods does not fully compensate for the fact that they do not have the same nutritional value as regular meat.
