Russian retailer Magnit announced the launch of the hard discount format. They will operate under the B1 or First Choice brand, the chain’s press office reported.

Magnit launched a network of hard discount stores

The first three stores are already accepting customers in Tuchkvo, Stupino and Elektrostal near Moscow.

For the first time, the retailer began working with the discount format in 2020. Then Magnit launched the My Price chain, in stores where inexpensive products are sold under the trademark of the retailer of the same name.

With the launch of First Choice, the company wants to strengthen its presence in the segment. As explained in the press service, the format is aimed at buyers who are not ready to compromise on the quality of the products, but are looking for affordable and affordable prices.

At the same time, the assortment in the “First option” will be less diverse than in the “My price” network. In the future, private labels will occupy up to half of the total supply.

First Choice will have its own bakeries. The network will also offer a wide selection of cereals, confectionery and frozen products by weight. To reduce its own personnel costs and save customers time, the chain introduces self-service.

The format will be run by Anzhela Ryabova, who previously developed the Baton discount store.
