The first Russian bank has officially announced that it can close banking on Telegram due to the restrictions imposed by Roskomnadzor according to the new law. VTB turned to the department for an explanation of how they should proceed, but expressed a willingness to stop supporting its Telegram banking.
VTB Bank, which uses the Telegram messenger as a platform to provide online banking services, has allowed its support to end. Forbes found out about this from the VTB press service.
VTB may close online banking on Telegram due to restrictions imposed by Roskomnadzor in accordance with the law that came into force on March 1. Government agencies, including banks, were prohibited from providing services for transactions with customers’ money through various foreign couriers. Among them, in addition to Telegram, were WhatsApp, Viber, WeChat.
VTB turned to Roskomnadzor to explain how to act in the current circumstances with his Telegram bank, but he assured that he was willing to stop supporting him.
VTB Bank is on the list of companies subject to US and EU blocking sanctions.
