Microsoft makes Bing AI ‘less crude’ with response update

Microsoft has added new response tone modes to the Bing chatbot to avoid rude and restrictive replies. The new functionality is available to around 90% of users and allows switching between them. three response options: creative, balanced and correct. The company reported that more than 1 million people from 169 countries have tested the vehicle.

Balanced mode is enabled by default in the service, while creative mode prefers “original and creative” responses. Sensitive mode looks for more realistic and concise information in the responses offered by the artificial intelligence (AI)-based natural language model.

The new update also significantly reduced situations where the Bing chatbot refuses to respond for no apparent reason, and rude and completely out-of-context responses considered by the company as “hallucinations”.

Recently, the Bing chatbot also gained a shortcut in the Windows 11 taskbar. Microsoft has also started offering this service to mobile device users and has integrated artificial intelligence into Skype conversations.

Bizarre response check

After ChatGPT’s integration with the Bing search engine, social networks were flooded with examples showing crude responses generated by the natural language model. Microsoft limited the use of the platform to avoid such AI behavior, but the chatbot started refusing to answer some questions.

Too long conversations create confusion in the model, according to the firm. However, the company has been suspending the measures in recent days. The new update aims to put an end to these problems by allowing users to calibrate the service’s response tone.
