Is it true that the Mediterranean lifestyle in general, combined with a diet based on fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fish, healthy fats, improves health? This question has been answered by a team of scientists. Experts have found that the more middle-aged and older Britons, who live some 2,400km northwest of the Mediterranean and party a lot, adhere to this lifestyle, the lower their risk of dying from heart disease, cancer and other diseases.

The results of the study were presented February 28 at the American Heart Association Conference on Epidemiology, Prevention, Lifestyle and Cardiometabolic Health, held in Boston.

Data on study participants are from British Biobank from a multicenter population-based study. The age of the people ranged from 40 to 75. They were observed from 2009-2012 to 2021.

Adults most committed to the Mediterranean lifestyle were 29% less likely to die from any cause and 28% less likely to die from cancer. The Mediterranean lifestyle includes interaction with others. That is, people form strong social bonds, enjoy afternoon naps, comfortable family meals, etc. they focus.
