Billionaire Roman Abramovich’s partner Yevgeny Shvidler has filed a lawsuit in a British court, Bloomberg reports. The businessman demands the lifting of the sanctions. He became the first to challenge such restrictions in a London court since the entry of Russian troops into Ukraine.

Abramovich’s partner, Shvidler, asked the British court to remove the sanctions.

Shvidler’s lawyers filed a lawsuit last month. They argue that the UK made serious mistakes in assessing Shvidler’s links to Abramovich.

The billionaire’s assets were frozen in March 2022, London believed Shvidler was benefiting from a long-term relationship with the former Chelsea owner.

According to the businessman, he had to face a series of serious difficulties since he was included in the sanctions list. He hopes the court will overturn the decision, which Shvidler’s lawyers call illegal. The hearing on the claim will take place within 28 days.

As of March 2022, the British government had already relaxed some restrictions on Shvidler.

Last spring, Shvidler was one of the billionaires, along with Pavel Durov, who asked the American edition of Forbes not to call them Russian businessmen. Shvidler has British and American passports. An entrepreneur was born in Ufa. The billionaire’s fortune is estimated at $1.7 billion. His assets include a stake in Evraz and investments in Norilsk Nickel.
