In January-June 2024, the Bank of Russia identified 3,495 companies, projects, individual entrepreneurs and other entities with signs of illegal activities, including signs of financial pyramids. This is stated in the materials of the mega-regulator.

This figure is almost 43% more than in the same period last year. However, compared to the second half of 2023, growth is slowing down.
Of the total number of suspicious entities, the Central Bank identified 1,723 with signs of financial pyramid schemes. The regulator says that 99% of this number are Internet projects.
The increase in the number of entities identified (51% compared to the same period last year) was due to the increase in offers in the online segment.
“Internet projects with pseudo-investment offers operating with elements of pyramid schemes have almost completely replaced classical financial pyramids,” the Central Bank says in its materials.
He also notes that scammers often disguise their projects as economic games with a pseudo-investment component. To promote, they use viral media trends, such as the hype around popular clicker games and memcoins.
It is clarified that more than 14% of illegal projects operated in the form of economic games.
