There is such a thing as a “time perspective” in psychology. It is defined as “the sum of an individual’s current ideas about his/her psychological future and psychological past”. So, for example, the feeling of speed of movement into the future is maximum in adolescence.
Time perspective theory has often been thought of in connection with various addictive behaviors, namely addictions. In a new study, the authors examined the relationship between five dimensions of time perspective, hypersexuality, and problematic pornography use.
The results showed that a genuine hedonistic time perspective can contribute to hypersexuality and pornography addiction. On the contrary, future time perspective is negatively associated with hypersexuality. While the true hedonistic form of perception of time is characterized by a person’s impulsiveness and desire to “live in the moment”, the future is actually characterized by a longing for the future.
