Oleg Tinkov commented for the first time on his request to the British authorities to lift the sanctions. The businessman described his inclusion on the sanctions list as “a mistake in a difficult situation”, but called the sanctions against most Russian businessmen “well deserved”.
Businessman Oleg Tinkov posted a post commenting on his inclusion on the UK sanctions list on his Instagram page (owned by Meta, whose activities are recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation).
Tinkov wrote that he should never have been penalized, but understands that mistakes can be made in difficult situations. The employer hopes that this error can be corrected.
Sanctions against the majority of Russian businessmen Tinkov called well deserved.
Oleg Tinkov was placed on the UK sanctions list in March 2022. The businessman’s assets were frozen, he was banned from entering the country. In March 2023, Tinkov turned to the British Foreign Office with a request to have the sanctions lifted, Bloomberg reported.
In November 2022, Oleg Tinkov published a post stating that he was giving up his Russian citizenship. This post was later removed.
