YouTube will stop showing pop-up ads while watching videos

Google, the owner of YouTube video hosting, announced the collapse of an advertising format such as pop-up banner ads while watching a video.

Pop-up banner ads while browsing content on PCs and laptops will no longer be shown to YouTube users starting April 6, 2023. Google clarified that this ad format is no longer used on mobile devices.

The cancellation of the banners will not affect the activities of bloggers and content creators, Google said. Content creators who have used pop-up ads will be asked to switch to a different ad format.

Russian bloggers’ revenue from advertising on YouTube in 2022 fell by 12.4% to 1.1 billion rubles. The profit decline was affected by the disabling of monetization on video hosting and the withdrawal of foreign advertisers from the market.
