As of this Wednesday (1), WhatsApp is no longer compatible with several older mobile phones due to the instant messaging application’s software compatibility policy. The devices where Messenger stopped working include all models in the iPhone 6 series, as well as several smartphones running Android.
According to the official WhatsApp FAQ, the app is currently compatible with all devices running the following operating systems: Android 5.0 and above, iOS 12 and above, and KaiOS 2.5.0 and above (including JioPhone and JioPhone 2)
WhatsApp ends compatibility with several older device models every year. To determine which mobile phones will lose this support, the company evaluates models that no longer receive security updates or whose operating systems are not fully compatible with all the features of the application.
