Under the contract, the Huey fleet will be replaced by the MH-139A Gray Wolf, which Boeing will build as the prime contractor.
The Gray Wolf is based on Boeing’s AW139 commercial helicopter. The company expects it to reduce the helicopter’s production and operating costs and save the US Air Force $1 billion over the helicopter’s lifetime. Gray Wolf will have 50% more range than Huey, lift 52,300kg more payload, fly 50% faster and have 30% more cabin space.
