In January 2023, Wildberries accounted for 41% of such sellers on Wildberries up from 76% in August 2022. On Ozon, the same indicator increased from 16% to 47%, another 12% prefer AliExpress, Yandex Market, KazanExpress and SberMegaMarket .
The decline in popularity of Wildberries among novice sellers was influenced by the introduction of a commission when registering sellers on the marketplace, Kommersant reported, citing a study by Tinkoff Data.
Wildberries disagrees with Tinkoff Data’s conclusions, stating that the growth of sellers on the online platform is significantly ahead of other platforms, and the growth of new sellers from competitors is explained by a low base.
“Wildberries focus on end consumers, creating a suitable image, while Ozon and Yandex Market promote themselves as good service providers for sellers and shops,” explains Ivan Kurguzov, CEO of Oborot.ru.
In September 2022, Wildberries introduced a registration fee for new sellers in the amount of 10 thousand rubles, and later increased the amount to 30 thousand rubles.
Wildberries’ press service told RB.RU that the site “was forced to suspend the registration of new sellers in September due to a sharp increase in the number of fraudulent personal account registrations and a significant increase in the number of customer complaints”.
