Meta* begins the development of a decentralized social network that competes with Twitter

The company said that they are creating a service where authors and public figures can freely share content according to their interests. As Platformer writes, Instagram head ** Adam Mosseri is overseeing the development of a new Meta* social network.

Decentralized networks began to gain popularity after American businessman Elon Musk bought Twitter, took it private, and launched reforms in both corporate policy and the concept of the network itself.
Many employees have left Twitter since Musk took over. Some users who decided to go to the Mastodon decentralized social network did not agree with its innovations. In November, the platform’s audience exceeded 7 million people. Elon Musk took over Twitter at the end of October.

Mastodon is a platform similar to Twitter with a microblogging function, the social network does not have a single owner. Its author is a German developer with Russian roots Evgeny Rochko.

According to MoneyControl, the new Meta* social network will support ActivityPub, the same protocol that Mastodon supports. The working title of the project is P92.

According to experts, Meta*’s intentions can be seen as an attempt to create a competitor to Twitter and Mastodon.

It was previously known that Facebook** will return the ability to exchange messages in the application of the social network. Since 2014, this function has been moved to a separate service.
