General Motors is extending a long-standing partnership with Microsoft as it aims to create a ChatGPT-based virtual assistant for drivers.
The Michigan maker of Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac wants to justify Microsoft’s $1 billion investment in OpenAI, the creator of the popular chatbot ChatGPT, and work with the corporation to develop a voice assistant whose artificial intelligence would help motorists to drive by responding to voice commands and not distract from the roads.
It is supposed that an intelligent assistant could even show drivers a video on how to change a wheel if a tire is punctured, or explain the meaning of one or another flashing light on the screen, or even diagnose the severity of the fault and advise how do it. quickly the problem needs to be solved (or everything is not critical and can wait).
Scott Miller, GM’s vice president of managed software and OS vehicles, told Reuters in an interview that a ChatGPT-based assistant could provide the car owner with information from the owner’s manual and even open garage doors with a combination lock.
Miller also confirmed to Semafor that GM is working on an artificial intelligence assistant that will expand beyond the simple voice commands used in GM vehicles in the past.
