Mukesh Ambani, owner of Reliance Industries, announced his desire to restart the Campa Cola carbonated drink brand. Since the 1970s, this company has been a market leader in India.

Indian billionaire Ambani plans to revive rival Coca-Cola

Ambani told CNN about the plans, referring to the Reliance Group press service. According to the channel, Campa Cola will return to the Indian soft drink market in three flavors: Classic Cola, Lemon and Orange.

“By introducing Campa in its new incarnation, we hope to inspire consumers of different generations to embrace this truly iconic brand and create new excitement in the beverage segment,” the holding’s press service noted.

CNN’s interlocutors are confident in the success of the launch, as the return of Campa Cola should evoke nostalgic feelings among middle-aged people who drank the drink in their youth.

Coca-Cola originated in India in the 1950s, but was withdrawn from the local market 20 years later when the country’s government demanded that the company disclose its recipe.

Created by Pure Drinks Group in the 1970s, Campa Cola became a leader in the Indian market for decades, with the slogan “Great Indian Taste”.

After the return of Coca-Cola and Pepsi to India in the 1990s, the popularity of the local soft drinks began to decline, and in the early 2000s, the last Cama Cola plant was closed. Reliance Industries bought the brand in 2022 for $2.8 million.
