A spokesperson for TP-Link told Tom’s Hardware that this is not their product and that they are working to remove “press releases” posted on their behalf. So yes, most likely this is a common trick of scammers trying to make money in the cryptocurrency market.

Based on the stated “performance”, if the router were real, it could mine around $4 worth of cryptocurrencies a day (not counting the electricity cost).
