A rare cloud formation in the sky puzzled Hawaiians a few days ago when several such cumulus clouds were spotted. UFO.

So at least the W.M. Keck Observatory near Mauna Kea warned, “We saw some UFOs today! Or rather, their twins.

We spotted several UFOs today! 🛸 Or rather, their twins. Check out these stunning photographs taken by several Kekis of flying saucer-shaped lenticular clouds hovering over Maunakea and Mauna Loa. Have you seen them too?📸 R. Kreychi, S. Yeh, A. Surendran, A. Rostopchina pic.twitter.com/MFk8rPqX62

This phenomenon is called lenticular clouds, which form on the lee side of large mountains or foothills when strong winds blow over rough terrain.

Lenticular clouds like these are fairly common in the western United States, near mountains like the Rocky Mountains, according to the National Weather Service. However, in places like Hawaii, it is much less common to see these UFO-shaped clouds appearing in the sky. Reports of these clouds have also appeared in places like Greece.

Lenticular clouds can have a cooling effect by blocking sunlight, but they can also have a warming effect by radiating heat radiation to the surface. The net effect of lenticular clouds on climate depends on their height, thickness, cover, and composition.

Because of their UFO-like appearance, these clouds are often mistaken for alien objects flying across our skies.
