According to the report, modems in the Exynos processor have a number of vulnerabilities that could allow “an attacker to remotely compromise the phone” without needing any information other than the victim’s phone number. However, Samsung is “pulling” to fix this issue.
According to the researchers, the following devices may be at risk:
-
Samsung Galaxy S22, M33, M13, M12, A71, A53, A33, A21, A13, A12 and A04.
-
in vivo S16, S15, S6, X70, X60 and X30
-
Any Wearables using the Exynos W920 chipset
-
Any Vehicles using the Exynos Auto T5123 chipset.
Essentially, the Galaxy S21 and S23 should be safe – they use Qualcomm regardless of sales region.
Project Zero says that if you own one of these smartphones, you can protect yourself by turning off Wi-Fi calling and Voice-over-LTE.
