The SDR report is based on analysis of over 2,000 hard drives from Western Digital, Seagate, Hitachi, Toshiba, Samsung and Maxtor. The most reliable drives were Toshiba with a resource of 34.8 thousand hours. The least resistant to failure were Hitachi drives with a resource of 18.6 thousand hours.
The company also examined the number of bad memory sectors on bad disks. This indicator affects the ability to recover data. The best results were shown by Maxtor drives with an average of 228 bad sectors. The worst result is Hitachi with 3.3k bad sectors.
SDR also noted that pre-2015 hard drives are more durable and stable than newer models.
