Mozilla’s browser released a feature called Firefox Relay that lets you mask email addresses to prevent tracking and spam. The extension also prevents the actual email from being leaked and can be sold or shared.

The integration, currently available on some sites, will expand to all users and more pages later in the year. The extension has been available in beta since August 2020. According to Mozilla, tool has already stopped more than two million spam.

The integration allows you to create an email mask when creating an account on a web page, without the need to access the administration panel. Firefox Relay protects privacy and anonymity by forwarding messages to the user’s real email address. This feature also removes trackers from emails before forwarding them to the user’s real account.

Enabling Firefox Toggle

To enable Firefox Relay in Mozilla Firefox, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Mozilla Firefox browser on your computer.
  2. Click the three horizontal lines icon in the upper right corner of the screen to open the Firefox menu.
  3. Select “Settings” from the menu.
  4. Select “Privacy & Security” in the left sidebar.
  5. Scroll down until you find the “Accounts & Passwords” section
  6. Select “Enable Firefox Relay in Firefox Password Manager”.
  7. Follow the instructions to create an account and set your email alias.

When a site prompts you to sign in or create an account, select “Protect your email address – Add Firefox Pass” in the email field. The password manager lets you create up to five free masks, but the premium account allows unlimited masks.
