The report’s authors use large-scale surveys to rank. Finland in 2023 (for the sixth year in a row) is considered the happiest country in the world. Most of the top spots are still held by the Scandinavian countries: Denmark (second), Iceland (third) and the Netherlands (fifth).

According to last year’s report, the USA rose from 16th to 15th place. Israel improved its position by five points. Ukraine fell from 69th to 92nd in 2021. The reason, of course, was military action. At the same time, the amount of aid in the country reached a record level – many people from all over the world came to the aid of Ukrainians. In Russia, on the contrary, the number of charitable cases decreased significantly, falling from 60th to 70th between 2021 and 2023.

Afghanistan (137th) and Lebanon (136th) remain the two most unfortunate countries in the ranking.
