The Moscow Arbitration Court decided to force the Canadian company IMAX to fulfill its obligations under contracts with the united network legal entity Cinema Park and Formula Kino. The proceeding concerned a 2008 trademark maintenance agreement.
The general director of the cinema network, Alexei Vasyanin, previously claimed that IMAX imposed a restriction on the screening of films in its format. The decision in favor of the network was made on March 22. If the company does not proceed with its execution within five days from the date of issue, it will be charged a daily fine of 200 thousand rubles.
At the same time, no one from the company was present at the meeting itself. The court will consider a claim from another legal entity of the cinema network, the meeting will be held on September 6.
The companies filed lawsuits against IMAX last fall. Despite the fact that IMAX has not officially left Russia, since June 1 it has suspended work in the country, notes the Association of Cinema Owners.
In the spring of 2022, the largest studios joined the condemnation of the hostilities on the territory of Ukraine and stopped the distribution of their films in the Russian Federation. Among them are Sony, Warner Bros and The Walt Disney.
