Scientists have discovered that just having the flu can increase your chances of having a heart attack. A particularly dangerous situation is considered a week after the diagnosis of flu.
People with the flu are six times more likely to have a heart attack a week after contracting the virus, according to a new study. The team of scientists came to this conclusion after analyzing data from more than 26,000 patients from the Netherlands.
It has long been known that the flu causes inflammation and an increase in blood viscosity. Also, this disease can contribute to the formation of blood clots. Usually during a heart attack, blood flow to the heart is completely blocked due to such a blood clot.
