Those with a green or blue iris are most at risk of developing eye cancer. This is compared to brown-eyed people. Also, people with fair skin are more likely to get cancer.
People with abnormal eye patches also have a higher risk of developing eye cancer.
It is also known that eye color can determine the likelihood of damage to human skin due to UV radiation. Therefore, people with fair skin and light eyes have less melanin, so they are more likely to get sunburned.
In 2022, scientists compared dark and light-eyed people for their odds of developing squamous cell skin cancer. It turned out that this risk was 24% higher in fair-skinned people. They were also 17% more likely to develop basal cell carcinoma (also a type of skin cancer).
