Kuo said there are several reasons behind Apple’s decision. These include the economic downturn in the market, compromises in hardware performance, device mass, readiness of the headset ecosystem and applications, and the high price of the gadget – from 3 to 4 thousand dollars or more.
The analyst noted that Apple is “not too optimistic” about the possibility of creating an “iPhone moment” with the new headset. Earlier, Apple CEO Tim Cook and Kuo himself said that the mixed reality headset should replace the iPhone within 10 years.
It is reported that the mass production of the device has been postponed to the middle or end of the third quarter of 2023. This creates uncertainty about his appearance at WWDC 2023. The delay also cuts headphone shipment estimates for 2023 to 200-300k units instead of the previously expected 500k units.
