Google Drive has released a new feature for the web version: permanent search filters. You can now filter your files by file type, owner, and last modified date from anywhere in the app using a browser.
This feature was already available in Google Drive search, but is now available “Drive Wide”. Google’s goal in redesigning the platform is to help users complete their most frequent tasks faster.
Google Drive search filters will be available to all Google Workspace customers, as well as legacy G Suite Basic and Business customers and users with personal Google accounts, in the coming weeks.
How to Use Filters in Google Drive
To use the filters, simply click the search icons below the file path. Three filters are available: file type, contacts, and last modified. This way, you can narrow down the relevant files in any view and find them faster.
Also, when you hover over a file in list view, you can show shortcuts to quickly share, download, rename and bookmark. This feature only appears on large screens. There is also a multi-select toolbar for performing batch operations.
Search news comes just after Google Drive got a new design inspired by Material You. In addition, Google has also started to implement Bard AI on the platform through Docs in enterprise and education versions.
