Scotland will be the first country in the world to launch long-haul commercial transport using unmanned buses. Starting May 15, five of these buses will carry passengers between Fife and Edinburgh.

The world’s first autonomous buses will be launched in Scotland

Scottish company Stagecoach has announced the launch of the world’s first long-haul commercial unmanned transport. Five of these buses will enter the line on May 15.

The length of the route will be 22 km. Passengers will be transported between Fife (Scotland) and Edinburgh. The buses will cross the Forth Road Bridge and will move at speeds of up to 80 km/h. Passenger traffic on the line is expected to be up to 10,000 people per week.

“We are proud to be at the forefront of transport innovation with this project, which marks a major milestone for public transport,” said Carla Stockton-Jones, Managing Director of Stagecoach UK.

The launch of full commercial flights on unmanned buses is planned for 2025 in Oslo, Norway, Geneva, Germany, Kronach, Germany.
