Global semiconductor sales in February collapsed 20%. Its total volume did not exceed 40,000 million dollars, although in the same month last year it amounted to 50,000 million dollars, the highest drop in the last 14 years.
Cumulative global chip sales in February 2023 fell 20.7% year-on-year to $39.7 billion, according to a Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) press release. In February 2022, the semiconductors were sold for $50 billion.
“Short-term market cyclicality and macroeconomic headwinds have led to lower sales, but the medium- and long-term market outlook remains favorable due to growing demand in various end markets,” SIA said.
The experts highlighted that semiconductor sales have been falling for the sixth consecutive month, although at the end of 2022 they grew 3.2% to 573.5 billion dollars, but in the fourth quarter they fell 14.7% year-on-year.
SIA represents two-thirds of the world’s semiconductor manufacturers.
