It is a tool for disseminating information to multiple people. Essentially, WhatsApp channels will work just like Telegram channels. They will be located in a separate section of the “Updates” tab, previously called “Status”.
Channels will be private, meaning the phone numbers and information of users who subscribe to them will be hidden. However, messages in channels will not be end-to-end encrypted.
It is not yet known when WhatsApp will make the channels feature available to all users. This is expected to happen in the near future.
