Global sales of personal computers plummeted 29% in the first quarter

Sales of personal computers in the first three months of 2023 were worse than in the same quarters of 2018 and 2019 before the pandemic. The analysis was carried out by the international research company International Data Corporation.

According to experts, total PC sales in the first quarter of this year fell by 29% compared to the first quarter of 2022 and amounted to 56.9 million devices.

The world leadership in the personal computer market was held by the Chinese company Lenovo with 12.7 million PCs sold. Its sales volume fell 30% in the first quarter. HP ranks second in the global PC market: the company’s sales fell by 24% and amounted to 12 million devices. American Dell rounded out the top three with 9.5 million PCs sold.

At the same time, Apple fared worse in the sales dynamics of personal computers. The corporation sold 40% fewer PCs – only 4.1 million units.

IDC experts mention the reasons for the drop in PC sales as a decrease in demand for them and an unfavorable situation in the global economy.
