US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) warned about the dangers of using USB ports in public places.

The FBI noted that public charging stations in hotels, airports and malls could be a vector for malware. Hackers have learned to use them to gain access to users’ devices.

If a public USB port is used to transfer malware to a computer, tablet, or smartphone, hackers can access sensitive data on the device, siphon usernames and passwords, hijack email, steal money from online accounts, and more.

The department noted that it would be safest to use your own USB cable and your own plug to charge from a wall outlet. So the data is returned under reliable protection.
