According to Amanda Sheehan, TePe’s general dentist and hygienist, plaque can form on the teeth when consumed due to the high amount of sugar in chocolate. This will then lead to cavities and gum disease. One way to avoid these unpleasant consequences is not to brush your teeth immediately after eating chocolate.
Always wait at least 30 minutes after eating foods containing sugar or acid. Only after that you can get the toothbrush. This will keep the enamel strong.
Also, make sure you only go to bed with teeth brushed. After all, saliva production is reduced at night, so it is not as effective in neutralizing the acids released by plaque.
Experts from the American Dental Association also recommend waiting at least half an hour before brushing your teeth, especially if you ate something sour or drank soda. Before doing this, chew sugar-free gum and drink water to clear your mouth.
