The company does not intend to release its own games for this platform, instead building a cross-functional team to manage licensing, strategy and support.
The team will help internal and external game studios leverage PlayStation intellectual property to create mobile games, monitor them, ensure they meet Sony’s expectations, and possibly invest in or acquire outside developers.
The team will also partner with leading mobile game developers to evaluate, produce and release PlayStation Studios Mobile games.
Many positions on this team require candidates to have experience, particularly in free-to-play games. The team is currently a small but growing group of product managers and external manufacturers in San Mateo and Amsterdam, and Sony has recruited several experienced executives from Apple Arcade, Zynga and Kabam to help build the team.
Sony’s job postings also show that the company is looking for experience with Unreal Engine.
