The creation of Bedrock means Amazon is joining other major cloud infrastructure providers like Google and Microsoft in offering developers the ability to use artificial intelligence (AI) trained on massive amounts of data.
The Bedrock service will offer access to Amazon’s own language models called Titan, as well as language models from Google-backed startups AI21 and Anthropic, and a text-to-picture model from Stability AI.
Andy Jassi noted that most companies want to use large language models, but “really good” models require billions of dollars of training and many years, which is beyond the capability of most companies. With Bedrock, companies will be able to work from a base model that is already great and great and then adapt it for their own purposes.
