For over 30 years, astronauts have been training in this giant weightless pool. Now the bottom of the pool is raised to recreate conditions on the lunar surface.

Lab conversion company V2X creates a replica of the lunar surface at the bottom of the pool, using real and artificial rocks and boulders, along with sand that mimics lunar soil.

The main goal of the project is to achieve a perfect simulation of one sixth of gravity. In addition, the pool will be used to train astronauts for the future Lunar Gateway orbital station.

The NBL Underwater Laboratory is expected to be a training ground for astronauts for next-generation space missions, including lunar exploration and further development of space infrastructure.
