This Thursday (20), The Espírito Santo Federal Court has announced that Telegram has up to 24 hours to send data on groups of people suspected of planning attacks on Brazilian schools. Messaging service may be suspended in Brazil if company fails to comply with subpoena.

according to the information received G1, the request was made by the Federal Police (PF) and then accepted by the Federal Judge Espírito Santo last Wednesday (19). According to PF, Telegram declined to provide key data for the investigation that would help identify these groups.

Although the request was accepted by the Court on Wednesday (19), the 24-hour period will only come into effect after receipt of the subpoena delivered on Thursday (20). Therefore, Telegram has until Friday (21) to share the data requested by PF.

The data should also assist in investigations into groups planning attacks on schools, as well as neo-Nazi groups that incite children to commit acts of hatred and violence in these settings.

In case of non-compliance with the subpoena, the Court should inform the telephone operators of the decision and suspend the messaging service in Brazil, possibly until further notice.
