Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk’s fortune plunged $11.4 billion in just one day, according to Forbes Real-Time ratings data. The billionaire became the leader in the reduction of capital among the richest people in the last 24 hours, but at the same time retained the second line of the rating.

Musk’s fortune fell $11 billion in one day due to the Starship explosion and Tesla collapse

Musk is now worth $173.6 billion.

The billionaire’s fortune was affected by the fall in Tesla shares: they collapsed almost 10% due to a report that disappointed investors. The company posted a record quarterly profit of $2.5 billion (down 24% from the prior year), the worst performance in two years.

The mood was also influenced by Musk’s remarks on the investor call. The Tesla founder has indicated that the company will continue with its policy of lowering the price of its electric vehicles to gain market share.

On the same day, Space X’s super-heavy Starship rocket, which is planned to be used in the future to fly to the Moon and Mars, exploded in the sky above the Starbase launch site in Boca Chico, Texas.

This was the first test flight of a spacecraft with a full load but no crew on board. Starship was supposed to make an incomplete revolution around the Earth and sink in the Pacific Ocean.

The rocket managed to separate from the launch pad, but a few minutes later the spacecraft spun out of control due to not all engines working. An emergency situation arose at an altitude of 38 km during the separation of the first stage of the rocket.
