If you watch movies and TV shows often, you may have noticed something: sometimes the volume of the dialogues is too low, while the voices referring to other scenes are too loud.

For example, in action productions, when explosions and chases are so intense, conversations can be so hard to hear that it’s necessary to turn the TV down. Well, the situation is quite disturbing. However, it looks like Amazon is planning to fix this.

Recently, Amazon announced Dialogue Boost, a feature that allows Prime Video users to adjust the volume of dialogue in the productions they watch. In this way, the sounds of movies and series, speech explosions, shots, music, etc. The novelty uses an Artificial Intelligence (AI) and can be customized according to the preferences of the audience.

According to Amazon, Dialogue Boost is designed for a “more convenient and accessible experience” and is only available for some Prime Video originals for now. These are: Jack Ryan series, The Marvelous Mrs. The films Maisel and Harlem and The Big Sick, Being Ricardos, and Pretty Boy. Still, according to the company, more games should get this functionality in 2023.

“At Prime Video, we are committed to creating an inclusive, equitable and satisfying streaming experience for all of our customers,” said Raf Soltanovich, vice president of technology at Prime Video and Amazon Studios. “Our catalog of captioned and audio commentary content continues to grow, and we’re taking another step towards creating more accessible streaming by evolving our technologies to innovate like Dialogue Boost.”

The AI-based tool identifies points in movies and TV shows where dialogue can be difficult to understand and automatically enhances them. The source is already in some more modern cinemas and some smart TVs, but in the streaming space, Amazon is the first to bring the innovation.
