Although the arthropod-invertebrate relationship is extremely rare in fossils, this discovery suggests a unilateral or mutually beneficial symbiotic relationship between insects and dinosaurs.

Fossilized insect larvae have been found to be related to modern skin beetles that typically feed on stocks of organic material, including natural fibers, and can also be found in the nests of birds and mammals.

Lead author of the study, Dr. Enrique Peñalver said the insect larvae live on or near the resin-producing tree, possibly in hairs accumulated in a nest.
