Google co-founder Sergey Brin is launching a non-profit organization (NPO) Catalyst4, which will focus on health and climate change. The businessman partially financed the creation of the NPO through the sale of Tesla shares.
According to Bloomberg, in December 2021, Brin sold $366 million worth of Tesla shares through Catalyst4 in various stages. This happened around the same time that the relationship between Google co-founder and Tesla CEO Elon broke down. Musk.
The Wall Street Journal linked the breakup to a possible affair between Brin’s wife, Nicole Shanahan, and Musk. Tesla’s CEO called the rumors “complete nonsense,” but in January 2022, Brin and Shanahan filed for divorce.
According to the WSJ, in the summer of 2022, the Google co-founder ordered his advisers to sell all their stakes in companies owned by Musk. In 2008, Brin invested $500,000 in Tesla.
Catalyst4 is developing new approaches to treat neurological diseases and disorders, as well as finding solutions to mitigate the effects of climate change, Bloomberg reports, citing a tax exemption request submitted by a nonprofit organization to the US regulator.
