This Monday (16), two months after the release of iOS 15.4 and other versions of its operating systems, Apple released new updates: iOS 15.5, iPadOS 15.5, macOS 12.4, watchOS 8.6 and tvOS 15.5.
Although some interesting features have been introduced, all updates seem to be priority important security fixes on devices, with iOS 15.5 almost 30 fixed items and macOS 12.4 with more than 50. Between security updates and new features, check out all the highlights below.
iOS and iPadOS 15.5
With the news about the Wallet app, which now lets you send or request Apple Pay Cash payments, a setting that limits the stored episodes of Apple Podcasts and automatically deletes old ones, the iOS and iPadOS 15.5 update also allows users to configure it. The system will not receive “Critical Alerts” even if Do Not Disturb Mode is enabled.
Among the nearly 30 security fixes, one stands out, stating that “a remote attacker could cause an unexpected application termination or arbitrary code execution.”
macOS 12.4
macOS Monterey 12.4 brings some interesting new features, including the aforementioned new Apple Podcasts setting, as well as the company’s option to update support for the newly released Studio Display, and the release of a new commemorative wallpaper referencing the product. However, the highlight of the update is undoubtedly the amount of security items fixed: there are more than 50.
These fixes contain a serious flaw with photo location information that “may persist even after removal in the Preview app”.
watchOS 8.6 and tvOS 15.5
The watchOS update includes new notifications when an irregular heart rhythm is detected in the user, the introduction of electrocardiogram (ECG) support in Mexico, as well as system security fixes. tvOS 15.5 brings security-oriented changes without any changes.
