The Tianwen-3 mission will use a pair of Long March 5 rockets to send two spacecraft to Mars around the year 2030. Within the scope of the mission, it is planned to collect 500 gr soil samples and deliver them to the world.
A walking robot or helicopter, similar to NASA’s Ingenuity unmanned robotic vehicle, can be used to collect samples. The prototype helicopter was presented by the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2021.
The collected soil samples will then be sent to Mars orbit using a two-stage apparatus that must dock with the return module.
Recall that in early January, South China Morning Post sources reported problems with the Chinese Zhurong rover: ground crews could not communicate with the device. The rover has reportedly been in sleep mode since May 18.
