The number of Yandex employees working from international centers tripled in 2022, most of those leaving are IT specialists, RBC reports, citing sources and a Yandex NV report filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission of USA (SEC).

The number of Yandex employees abroad tripled in 2022

From the report of the parent company Yandex, it follows that at the end of last year, the number of employees of the group abroad tripled compared to 2021 and exceeded 1.7 thousand people. This is about 8% of the total number of employees of the company (there are 20.9 thousand in total – year-on-year growth was 16%).

The figure for the number of employees abroad does not take into account the several thousand workers who work part-time.

The global increase in the workforce is due to the acceleration of hiring in the Search and Portal division, also in the business group with taxi and delivery services.

  • After the start of the special operation, it became known that about a hundred Yandex employees moved to Armenia, and the company began to look for additional coworking in Yerevan. In the summer of 2022, Yandex opened a hub in Serbia for 700 employees.
  • In mid-2022, former Yandex CEO Elena Bunina told The New York Times that around 2,500 employees from other countries worked for the company at that time. The publication later, citing Yandex employees, reported that the company was suffering from a growing split between employees who remained in the Russian Federation and those who were outside the country, which “complicates even communication, not to mention cooperation.” ”.
  • In March 2023, the company shifted employees to a hybrid mode of operation, which involves them being in the office two to three days a week. At the same time, employees can choose any of the company’s offices in Russia or an international center: in Kazakhstan, Armenia, Serbia and Turkey.

Yandex is headquartered in Moscow, but in the CIS countries the group is developing search services, food or grocery delivery, taxis, Yandex.Plus subscriptions and more.

In Africa, a number of European countries and the United Arab Emirates, a taxi service operates under the Yango brand, in some places the company is also developing delivery.

In Türkiye, Yandex is developing search and navigation; in the US and Israel: online education, etc.
