The Burger King fast food restaurant chain completed 2022 in Russia with a 40% increase in revenue, to 69 billion rubles. The results were affected by the exit of the market of the main competitors: McDonald’s and KFC. This follows from the results of the Casebook study, with which RB.RU got acquainted.

Burger King in Russia increased its revenue by 40% amid the closure of McDonald’s and KFC

The American brand in the Russian market is being developed through franchises through Burger Rus, owned by the investment fund VTB Capital and owner of Shokoladnitsa Alexander Kolobov.

Unlike McDonald’s and KFC, Burger King did not close restaurants after the start of the special operation in Ukraine and continues to operate as usual.

Other popular foodservice brands are expected to experience a decline in revenue in 2022. So, for example, the revenue of “Vkusno — i dotki” at the end of last year decreased by 43% and amounted to 73.5 thousand million rubles.

The revenue of Unirest, which franchised part of KFC restaurants in Russia, decreased by 6% in 2022 and amounted to 17 billion rubles. The Papa John’s pizzeria chain reduced its revenue by nine times, to 115.5 million rubles, and Pizza Hut – by 12%, to 322 million rubles.

  • Hmm! Brands announced the suspension of its KFC restaurants in Russia in early March 2022. At the same time, franchise outlets continued to operate, as most of the restaurants in Russia under the KFC brand are managed under franchise agreements and are owned by of Russian legal entities.
  • The departure of McDonald’s from Russia was announced on May 16, 2022. Less than a month later, the restaurants began to work under a new brand: “Tasty, and that’s it.” The Russian McDonald’s business was bought by businessman Alexander Govor.
