Since the beginning of 2023, 46.9 thousand smartphones of Russian brands have been sold in Russia. This is 53% less than the same period in 2022, according to data from Marvel Distribution. The sharp reduction was confirmed in Vedomosti and other markets.

Russian smartphone sales halved in a year

The leaders in the number of smartphones sold among Russian brands this year are BQ-Mobile – 32.8 thousand devices, Inoi – 8.7 thousand devices, Black Fox – 3.9 thousand devices, Vertex – 800.

Experts believe that Russian smartphones in general are more likely to lose competition to Chinese ones. The decline in interest in local brands may be due to intensifying competition in the low-price segment.

The positions of Chinese brands have strengthened due to the growth of their recognition, which has allowed them to become more attractive.

  • The share of Chinese smartphones in the Russian market reached 70% in April 2023. Products made in China are popular against the background of reduced supplies from Korean Samsung and American Apple, now Chinese Xiaomi and Realme are the market leaders.
